Amber Hojari Frankincense (25g)
Origin: Oman | Hand-selected
A pale yellow-green resin with a fresh, clean and delicate aroma, featuring subtle lime and lemon-peel notes, soft woody nuances and gentle natural sweetness.

Natural Myrrh (25g)
A warm, earthy and woody aroma with a subtle touch of natural sweetness.

Benzoin Resin (25g)
A warm, sweet and balsamic aroma with characteristic vanilla-like nuances.

Royal Green Hojari Frankincense (25g)
Origin: Oman
A fresh, bright and refined resinous aroma with citrus-like nuances.

Natural aroma characteristics and resin appearance may vary between batches.

Direct Charcoal Heating: Resin is placed directly onto hot charcoal for a bold, traditional aromatic experience.

Indirect Mica Heating: An included mica sheet separates resin from direct charcoal contact, helping reduce scorching and encouraging a more gradual release of aroma.

Actual results vary with charcoal temperature and resin type.

Beyond natural resins, Aurooa Chalice also accommodates traditional incense materials such as sage and Palo Santo.

Its elevated steel mesh allows air to reach burning incense materials from below, encouraging natural airflow while allowing ash to collect in the ceramic vessel.

Review

I've had this for just over three weeks and still haven't made it through all eleven resins. I started with the Royal Green, then compared the Somali and Ethiopian frankincense on separate evenings. They're definitely not interchangeable — some are brighter, while others feel much drier or earthier. The 10g jars looked small when I opened the box, but considering how little I use each time, they're plenty for sampling properly.

I've always burned frankincense on charcoal, so the first thing I noticed was how different the scent was with this burner. I started with the dish fairly high above the candle and lowered it little by little. The Royal Green took a few minutes to warm up, but once it did I could smell the fresh, slightly citrusy notes much more clearly. With charcoal I usually get a stronger hit of smoke straight away. This is slower, but much nicer for an evening indoors.

I bought this mostly because I wanted to try the Royal Green. The pieces I received were genuinely green rather than the yellowish frankincense I've bought before. I only use two or three small pieces at a time, so the 20g goes further than I expected. The scent is cleaner and brighter than my usual frankincense, especially when warmed slowly.

I sent this directly to my mum for her birthday, so I didn't see it until she opened it on a video call. The packaging was much nicer than I expected. The burner and resin tins had their own places rather than everything moving around loose in the box. She was able to set it up that evening without needing me to explain much.

I've been using mine on a desk in the spare room rather than in a large living room. One tea light gives more than enough warmth for that space, and I like that I don't end up with the charcoal smell lingering afterwards. I usually warm the resin for 20–30 minutes, blow out the candle and sometimes come back to the same resin later. It makes a small amount last surprisingly well.

There was a bit of trial and error on the first evening. I put the dish too close to the flame and the resin started smoking more than I wanted. Once I raised it a couple of centimetres, it settled down and released fragrance without much visible smoke. I'd suggest starting higher than you think and moving down slowly.

The removable mesh is what sold me on this burner. Air can reach the charcoal from below, and once everything has cooled down it's easy to lift the mesh and empty the ash.

I really like the raised mesh design. The charcoal gets plenty of air underneath and stays glowing much more consistently than in my old burner. The ash falling into the bowl also makes cleanup easier.

Simple idea, but it works extremely well. The mesh keeps the charcoal elevated and the airflow underneath makes a noticeable difference. Great for frankincense and myrrh.

I bought this mainly for burning frankincense and I'm very happy with it. It gives me the traditional charcoal and smoke experience I wanted, while keeping the ash contained inside the burner.
